Space Cadet

The Space Cadet model came to me from daydreaming on what design features I would put into an asymmetrical. So I figured I’d start with blending a bunch of rockers, bottom contours, and rails from my favorite boards that have been tried and tested, then came up with a balanced outline to complement the fin setup and the different pressure and leverage you get from your heels and toes.

Being a bit of a Frankenstein, out-there design, I wasn’t sure how it would go, but after my first surf on it, I felt it was the most natural-feeling board I’ve made and was lucky to get it right on the first board. All the design elements from these other shapes came together perfectly.

A blend of double and concave V through the fins to keep it on rail, parallel outline for speed, and low apex rails for bite into the wave face with confidence.

Made custom to your stance (natural or goofy), you have a longer rail line on your toes with a twin fin and a shorter rail on your heels with a quad. This solves the problem of overpowering twins on your backhand, being heavy on your heels with the quad, but still allowing the sensitive twin on your toe side to project long, fast turns and pivot to the lip.

This is the most high-performance alternative board I make, and you can push these as hard as you can in some serious waves.

Order it around the same dims as your standard shorty. I’m 5’8 and 70kgs. I ride a 5’10 x 18 1/2 x 2 3/8 28L. I like mine slightly longer and narrower for good waves.
