Panhead
Panhead
The name comes from the iconic Harley-Davidson Panhead engine—and around the same time these were manufactured, the involvement era of longboards was made. This pintail, full roll bottom longboard is a modern take on the classic involvement-style longboards of the late ’60s.
The Panhead has its widest point back, a rolled bottom, and refined rails with a lower apex than the Dancing Days, and a pin tail. I like to run a flex fin. These design elements help with tight transitional surfing, smooth hard carves, and ease of nose rides in the pocket.
I like riding mine when I want to get more radical, or when the waves have a little more power or are more hollow, or on days that are a bit windy, as the rolled bottom soaks up bumps better than a concave.
